Greater Glens Falls Transit (GGFT) a Dept. of the City of Glens Falls is seeking candidates to fill the full-time position of Deputy Director of Transportation. Position involves assisting the Dir. of Transportation in managing day to day operations of the public transit system and working with outside agencies to help develop new programs and services to improve the range and scope of mobility options available in the greater Glens Falls region.
Ideal candidates should have strong communications skills and be able to effectively interact with a wide range of outside agency staff and the general public; have a background in program administration/management and have solid computer skills. Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years related professional experience is desired.
Position will remain open until it is filled, based on Civil Service requirements. A provisional appointment will be made with examination to be held at a later date. Starting pay range is $55,000 to 60,000 plus benefit package that includes health insurance (dental & vision included) enrollment in the New York State Retirement system and paid time off.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for assisting the Director of Transportation in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Greater Glens Falls Transit System (GGFT) in a safe, efficient and economical manner. Duties also include general transportation planning as well as the development of mobility management plans which aim to improve area transportation programs and services. Work is performed under general direction with considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over subordinate employees. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Assists in the oversight of the day to day administration and operation of GGFT; Analyzes and evaluates transportation services; Assists in the identification, development, and administration of enhancements to existing public transit and new mobility related services; Acts as GGFT representative with local businesses and agencies to facilitate the development and effective coordination of mobility related services in greater Glens Falls area; Develops and implements a public information program to improve public awareness of mobility services; Investigates problems and issues of concern and recommends course of action; Provides supervision of subordinate staff; Uses office and various transportation related computer applications and software in performing work assignments; Acts for and on behalf of the Director of Transportation as assigned or in his/her absence; Performs other duties as required by the Director of Transportation.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of program administration and transportation management; good knowledge of computer operation and application to transportation system operation; working knowledge of governmental administration and budgeting practices; working knowledge of public relations techniques; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; dependability; tact and courtesy.
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Transportation, Planning, Business Administration or a related field and two years of experience in transportation, planning, budgeting or program administration/management;
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in any field and four years of experience in transportation, planning, budgeting or program administration/management;
C. Graduation from a regionally accredited NYS registered college or university with an Associate's degree in any field and six (6) years of responsible experience in transportation, planning, budgeting or program administration/management.
