(New York, NY) – The New York Public Transit Association (NYPTA) is inviting transit systems from across the state to participate in the 2016 Transportation and Maintenance Roadeo on September 24th at Aqueduct Racetrack in Jamaica, NY.
Hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Association (MTA) NYC Bus Operations, the Roadeo is a pair of friendly competitions; one for bus operators and one for bus mechanics. The event promotes safety, professionalism and skill. “Our transit systems look forward to this every year,” said NYPTA President Carm Basile, “our bus operators and mechanics demonstrate just how good they are and get a little well-deserved recognition.”
The bus operators’ competition involves driving a bus on a test course marked with traffic cones simulating various situations encountered on the road. The mechanics will be challenged to diagnose several different mechanical problems. The two day event includes meetings and training on Friday, September 23rd, with a practice run, Roadeo competition, reception and awards dinner on Saturday the 24th.
Transit systems with members wishing to participate need to have their registration materials in by Friday, August 19th. Details and registration information can be found at https://nytransit.org/transit-connects/roadeo-bus-event.
