The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has good news for subway riders worried about the shutdown of the L train: The closing will be shorter than expected. The authority’s board voted to approve a $477 million contract to close the L train tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan for 15 months to repair damage caused by Hurricane Sandy— instead of 18 months as originally planned. The work is set to begin in April 2019.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved more than $32 million in grants and interest-free loans to support vital drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects across New York State. This funding will provide much-needed assistance for one drinking water project and six wastewater projects in Upstate New York.

The Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) safety program has changed how the Federal government and States work together to keep rail transit agencies (RTAs) safe. By law, FTA is required to certify whether each State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program meets Federal requirements for safety oversight of RTAs. By April 15, 2019, each eligible State with an RTA must have an FTA-approved and FTA-certified SSO program.
