A Historic Moment for NYS & MTA: Second Ave Subway Unveiled  

Governor Cuomo unveiled the Second Ave Subway last week, offering the public a glimpse into the subway station. It opened officially on January 1st. The words "Excelsior" and "E Pluribus Unum" – New York’s message to people who ride the subways in New York – are displayed on the beams inside of the station. Photos are available here.

Governor Cuomo Announces Completion of $159 Million Project to Reconstruct Van Wyck Expressway

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo last week announced completion of a $159 million project to reconstruct the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens. The project, which is aimed at greatly reducing congestion and easing traffic flow, is part of the $400 million reconstruction of the Kew Gardens Interchange where the Grand Central Parkway, Van Wyck Expressway, Jackie Robinson Parkway and Union Turnpike all intersect.

Governor Cuomo Announces 2017 Regional State of the State Addresses

This year, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo will be delivering his message to the legislature in a series of Regional State of the State addresses delivered across New York. “The State of the State is an opportunity for the Governor to lay out the state’s priorities for the upcoming year, and this year we plan to do it a little differently,” said Melissa DeRosa, Governor Cuomo's Chief of Staff.

Next month, the Governor will bring his message directly to communities statewide, announcing regional initiatives and groundbreaking proposals he will advance in 2017. The Governor looks forward to articulating his vision for a stronger, brighter New York in the weeks ahead.”.

Stephen Goodman named FTA Region 2 Administrator 

Stephen Goodman, PE, has been with the FTA for over thirty years and has recently accepted the position as FTA Region 2 Administrator. Stephen Goodman, PE, previously, served as director of FTA’s Lower Manhattan Recovery Office, which supports the rebuilding of transportation infrastructure and the economic revitalization of lower Manhattan following the tragic events of 9/11.

In that role, he was also responsible for overseeing the $12 billion East Side Access project, which will give Long Island Rail Road access into a new concourse at New York’s Grand Central Terminal, and the $5.5 billion Second Avenue Subway project that addresses the Lexington Avenue line capacity issues. We congratulate Stephen and wish him the best in this position.
