CDTA Kicks-Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is once again partnering with the American Cancer Society in its fight against breast cancer. CDTA turned one seat pink on each of its BusPlus buses as a way to bring attention to the disease during the month of October.
“We are proud to once again partner with the American Cancer Society on this important issue,” said David M. Stackrow, CDTA Board Chairman. “We all know someone who has been affected by this disease, some of us more personally than others.
 
In addition to the pink seats, a pink hangtag will include a breast cancer fact and information about the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on October 16th in Albany’s Washington Park. Follow their strides on Twitter!

Rachel Maloney Joyner, Transportation Planner, finished her year-long seminar with the American Public Transportation Association’s Early Career Program. Rachel traveled around the country, learning about what works best for other transit agencies, and what techniques and practices might help Metro be the best. Congrats Rachel!

Governor Cuomo Unveils New Pennsylvania Station-Farley Complex

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Thursday of last week,  unveiled sweeping plans for the complete transformation of the historic James A. Farley Post Office into a world-class transportation hub. At the Association for a Better New York, the Governor announced the selection of a developer-builder team including three companies, Related Companies, Vornado Realty LP, and Skanska AB to redevelop the Farley Building, creating a new 255,000 square foot Train Hall to house passenger facilities for the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak.

Federal Transit Administration Issues Guidance to Public Transportation Agencies on Implementing Equal Employment Opportunity Requirements
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA)  published on Thursady a  revised guidance to transit agencies on how to comply with federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines. FTA produced the circular to ensure that transit agency leadership understands and follows EEO requirements to prohibit discrimination in the workplace and stays in sync with changes that have occurred as federal laws impact civil rights.
