NYSDOT Commissioner Matthew Driscoll , FTA's new Regional Director, and Art Guzzetti, Vice President of Policy for APTA,  will be the featured speakers at the Public Transit Industry Breakfast Panel to be held October 20 during this year's Public Transit Industry Conference and Expo. The event, held October 18-20 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, includes a wide range of speakers and training sessions as the largest transit industry trade show in New York state. Governor Cuomo Announces Special Subway Reads to Promote Wifi in More Than 175 Stations
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Sunday that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has partnered with Transit Wireless and Penguin Random House to launch "Subway Reads," a special eight-week joint promotion celebrating the installation of free wireless connectivity in more than 175 underground subway stations. The promotion will provide customers with access to five free e-shorts, as well as extensive samples from full-length books, to enjoy while riding the subway.

Amtrak to Receive $2.45 Billion Loan From the Federal Government
In an press conference over the weekend, Vice President Joe Biden and Deputy Secretary of Transportation Victor Mendez announced a $2.45 billion loan to Amtrak by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Build America Bureau through its Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) Program – marking the largest single loan in the Department of Transportation’s history.
