LIRR Officials Roll Out Next Phase Of ‘Double Track’ Project
Long Island Rail Road’s "Double Track" project is back on track, officials announced Wednesday. An environmental assessment is under way on building an additional track from Ronkonkoma, one of the railroad’s busiest stations, to Farmingdale. Only one track runs between the stations, which are about 18 miles apart.

House Approves $50.5 Billion Sandy Aid Package
The House on Tuesday approved $50.5 billion in aid to help Northeastern states rebuild after super storm Sandy—a major, if delayed, victory for hard-hit parts of New York and New Jersey. The measure could be taken up by the Democratic-controlled Senate next week, where it will likely receive a friendlier reception than in the Republican-controlled House.

New technology planned for Alstom Citadis LRVs
Alstom and Williams Hybrid Power Thursday announced they have signed an agreement to apply Williams Hybrid Power's energy storage technology to Alstom's Citadis light rail transit (LRT) vehicles by 2014. The two companies will "work together to adapt and develop an energy storage solution that has the potential to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of Alstom's rolling stock."

Canada - Better Transit Comes With a Price
Want better transit and less congestion in the GTA? Then be prepared to pay. That was one of the key messages GO Transit president Gary McNeil tried to hammer home during a roundtable discussion at the Newmarket Community Centre yesterday. About 50 people attended the Metrolinx-sponsored meeting to share their thoughts on the various projects included in the Big Move regional transportation plan and also express their views on the various proposals to pay for them.
